MURDER FOR HIRE
Ordinarily, if you kill people for money, society considers such conduct to be criminal in nature, and pursues the bad guy.
But these are not ordinary times. If you are a major figure in a major retail corporation, it may be okay to kill people in order to increase profits. Indeed it is so "okay", that the bad guys are willing to go public.
Recently the CEO of the National Retailers Federation (think Macy's, Saks, etc.), in an effort to support a litigated delay in a covid inoculation mandate for sales employees, admitted: "we all agree with the premise that vaccines … save lives." Nevertheless, the president of Macy's, who sits on the board of the Retail Federation said he would love to see the vaccination mandate put off until February.
Whyzat? If vaccination saves lives (and it does), and if mandates increase the percentage of people who get vaccinated (and it does), why wouldn’t the retailers urge vaccination of all their employees immediately?
Money, that’s why.
Because there is a labor shortage, and if vaccination were mandated today, retailers would lose some anti-vax employees. That means a diminution of Christmas sales people and, gasp, a diminution of profits.
That apparently is an unacceptable trade. That is why although the retail federation agrees that "vaccines save lives", it still wants to delay the mandate. In simple terms it is willing to trade lives for profits.
Once upon a time, that was not only immoral, it was illegal.
The times, they are a-changin'.
The matter is being litigated, and one expects the mandate question might soon reach the Supremes, who might shock us all and actually make a moral decision, in contrast to its other recent rulings.
A bientot.
