WHAT NOW?

I have not, up to now, gone into any detail about what General London would order his troops to do in fighting the war in Gaza.  In truth, General London never rose above the rank of Sergeant E-6, never attended the US Army's War College, nor held any official position that gave him a professional perspective on how to proceed tactically. What would likely happen if Israel and the United States made the wrong choices? Happily, my common sense pushed me in the right direction anyway and I was happy to read in the NYTmes this Sunday an editorial by a knowledgeable former U. S. envoy to the Middle East that hit the nail on the head. Mr. Ross said it a lot better than I could and so I break precedent by using this post to shift the burden of writing and let Ross carry the ball,

Sadly enough, the media now devotes about 80% of its coverage to the injuries inflicted on the Gaza civilian population. Focusing on that issue will ultimately lead to catastrophe for Israel, the Middle East, and inevitably risks sucking the United States into an unwanted conflict in a geographic area in which we have never been successful.

The Times piece is below. I urge you to take the time to read it. (Sadly enough, my technical incompetence has produced a reference icon that will require you to make several extra clicks to reach the article. Keep at it. If I can do it, anyone can do it.)

A bientot.
